Of the 990 candidates who cleared the Civil Services Examination 2017, over 50 hail from Tamil Nadu. Two of them figured in the top 100 ranks.

V. Keerti Vasan, a civil engineer from Dharmapuri, secured the 29th rank, emerging the topper among the candidates from Tamil Nadu.

After passing out of NIT-Tiruchi, he started preparing for the Civil Services examination in various institutes.

“This is my first attempt. My optional subject is political science and international relations. This helped a lot in preparation for the General Studies paper II,” said Mr. Vasan.

L. Madhubalan, another topper from Tamil Nadu, secured the 71st rank. “I opted not to join the TCS after my graduation in Electronics and Communication Engineering in 2016. This is my first attempt. My optional subject is Tamil literature,” he said.

Attributing his success to the faculty members at the academy where he studied, Mr. Madhubalan said he prepared notes from The Hindu , which gave him an edge over other aspirants.
