The entrance examination for the Jawaharlal Institute of Post-graduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER) was held on Sunday at 11 centres across the country.

In Puducherry, the examinations were held in five venues.

According to the dean K.S. Reddy, out of 30,691 candidates who registered for the examination, only 21,895 appeared.

He also said that the results of the examination should be out by June 11.

The examination paper had five sections with a total of 200 marks. Each section was allotted 50 marks. There were no negative markings.

For the first time, image capturing and biometric finger printing of students were done before the exam to avoid impersonation.

This procedure will be repeated during the counselling and will be matched with the data obtained on Sunday.

Students, who took the examination, said that the Physics section of the paper was the toughest.

According to Subramaniyan, a student of the Don Bosco Higher Secondary School, the high number of numerical questions in the section surprised the students who were expecting a more theory based section.
