Over 2,000 liquor bottles seized; 58 held in Nellai, Tuticorin districts

Police arrested 31 persons from various parts of the district for selling liquor on ‘Thiruvalluvar Day,’ a ‘dry day’ declared by the State Government, and seized over 1,500 liquor bottles from them.

As liquor shops across the district were closed on Friday in view of ‘Thiruvalluvar Day,’ the liquor bottles were sold illegally by a few individuals at an inflated price. When police conducted surprise checks in the city, 12 persons were arrested with 131 liquor bottles.

In Tirunelveli district, the police nabbed 19 persons for selling Indian Made Foreign Liquor illegally and confiscated 1,413 bottles from them.

Tuticorin

Five hundred and thirty one liquor bottles, which were kept to be sold illegally on Thiruvalluvar Day, a dry day, on Friday, were seized from various parts of the district. Despite the closure order of TASMAC liquor shops by District Administration, the seized bottles had been stashed illegally by offenders to sell it high price. According to police here on Saturday, twenty seven persons found guilty of illegally selling such items, had been arrested. A total of twenty three cases were booked against them.
