Vital organs were harvested from two persons, who were declared brain dead following different accidents, at a hospital here.
A 76-year-old man, Rangaswamy Gounder from Sathyamangalam, fell down while he was driving a motorcycle recently.
He was administered first-aid at Sathyamangalam Government Hospital and later brought to Kovai Medical Center and Hospital (KMCH) for further treatment.
After the mandatory assessment, he was certified as ‘brain dead’ on June 10th. His son decided to donate his father’s organs.
The harvesting was done on June 11, at KMCH.
Both the kidneys were donated to KMCH and the eyes to Aravind Eye Hospital here.
Separately, a 64-year-old woman, Karunambigai from Vadavalli, met with an accident while she was walking. She was brought to the KMCH for treatment.
She was declared ‘brain dead’ on June 13th. Her son decided to donate his mother’s organs. The harvesting was done on June 14 at KMCH.
Hospitals receiving organs
Both the kidneys donated were to KMCH, liver to Global Hospitals, Chennai and eyes to Aravind Eye Hospital here.

All the organs have been transplanted to needy patients, the KMCH said in a press release issued here.
