The Madras High Court on Tuesday reserved orders on a writ petition by the Kancheepuram Collector challenging the revocation by the Centre of the detention of PMK MLA J. Guru alias Gurunathan under the National Security Act (NSA) for the second time.
The legislator was detained under the NSA on May 10 this year.
The Centre revoked it.
He was detained under the Act for the second time on July 3 on the basis of the Kancheepuram Collector’s order.
On August 22, the Centre revoked the detention.
When the petition came up before a Division Bench, comprising Justices V. Dhanapalan and C.T. Selvam on Monday, K.T.S.Tulsi, senior counsel appearing for the petitioner, said the Centre, while passing the order of revocation, had not given the reason for doing so
The Additional Solicitor-General of India, P. Wilson, said the revocation was on “substantial grounds.”
