Oral pellet vaccine for desi fowls distributed

A three-day training programme on ‘Management strategies to alleviate heat stress in cross-bred cattle for sustainable production’ organised by Veterinary College and Research Institute here concluded on Sunday.

The programme was organised under the scheme of ‘Dissemination of innovative technology of Tamil Nadu State Council for Science and Technology’, Chennai. Moreover, the participants were given health input of oral pellet vaccine for Newcastle Disease affecting desi fowls.

S. Prathaban, Dean, Veterinary College and Research Institute, who presided over the function, released the training manual and distributed certificates to the dairy farmers and health inputs to the desi fowl farmers.

Lectures

Lectures on heat stress, production related physiological changes in summer, housing to reduce the impact of summer, summer feeding management, prevention and control of diseases in dairy cattle, first aid medicine, value-added milk products and ethno veterinary medicine were given by the experts of the college.

A total of 40 dairy farmers participated in the programme and 15 desi fowl farmers received health inputs.

S. Eswari, Training Co-ordinator and Head of the Department of Veterinary Physiology and Biochemistry, VC and RI, and S. Senthilkumar, Principal Investigator and Assistant Professor, Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Extension Education, VC and RI, spoke.
