OPS presents estimates

₹2,519 cr. set aside for transport workers

Deputy Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam, who is also holding the portfolio of Finance, presented the supplementary estimates to the tune of ₹6,522.03 crore in the Assembly on Friday.

The amount included ₹2,519.25 crore as ways and means support advance for State Transport Undertakings (STUs) for settlement of retirement benefits of retired employees, towards salary recovery dues of existing employees and for settlement of motor vehicle accident compensation to victims.

Another inclusion was ₹1,919.75 crore for the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF).

The government sanctioned ₹120 crore for taking up works to mitigate drinking water supply problems in urban and rural areas as part of drought rehabilitation measures in 2017-18.

Moreover, ₹1,799.75 crore was required to be transferred to the SDRF.

Mr. Panneerselvam said ₹286 crore was sanctioned for the implementation of a scheme for switching over from trawlers from Palk Bay to deep sea fishing boats.

Other sanctions include ₹793.81 crore for interest-free ways and means advance to the Greater Chennai, Coimbatore and Salem corporations, additional amount of ₹300 crore for maintenance of State highways, major district roads and other district roads and ₹594.58 crore for land acquisition and formation of bypass ring road and six land roads.
