THENI

Deputy Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam inspected Theni Combined Drinking Water Project near Vaigai dam at Andipatti on Tuesday.

Official sources said the project, commissioned at a cost of ₹68.85 crore, was ready for inauguration and the trial run was also over. Earlier when storage in Vaigai dam was poor, Tamil Nadu Water Supply and Drainage Board officials had postponed the operation of the project till the commencement of rainy season.

Now with comfortable storage in the dam owing to torrential showers and heavy discharge from Periyar dam, the officials planned to operate the project.

Chief Minister Edappadi S. Palanisamy was expected to inaugurate it during MGR centenary celebrations scheduled to be held in Theni on November 4, the sources said.

A total of 1.5 lakh people residing in 33 wards in Theni Allinagaram Municipality would benefit through this project, they added.

Collector N. Venkatachalam accompanied Mr. Panneerselvam.
