To ensure smooth transit of fishing fleets underneath Pamban bridge, State authorities, in consultation with the Central Government, should take adequate steps to open up the bridge for longer hours, Maharajan, president, Tharuvaikulam panchayat, said at a fishermen grievances day meeting convened here on Friday.

He also sought housing facilities under Green House Scheme for those living in coastal hamlets, valid documents for those who have no pattas and potable water at the fish landing centre at Tharuvaikulam.

Presiding over the meeting, Collector Ashish Kumar, appealed to the Tahsildar concerned to issue house site pattas and ensure housing for all applicants under the scheme.

The TWAD Board Executive Engineer was also asked to extend water supply to the fish lading centre, he noted.

Florence, president, Amali Nagar Fishermen Cooperative Association, said subsidised kerosene was not being distributed properly.

P.Pradeep Kumar, Assistant Director of Fisheries (Marine), Tuticorin, assured that adequate measures would be taken to ensure prompt supply of kerosene.
