May 22, 2014 03:01 am | Updated 09:17 am IST - UDHAGAMANDALAM:

With the tourist season now in its peak time, the scene of action at the annual Summer Festival shifted to Ooty Lake here.

Undeterred by intermittent thunder showers, a large number of tourists made a beeline for the lake at the far end of the town to witness the annual boat race which was organised by the Nilgiris district administration, Tamil Nadu Tourism Development Corporation and the Department of Tourism here on Tuesday. Nilgiris Collector P. Sankar inaugurated the race and distributed the prizes. Many of the tourists interviewed by The Hindu said they enjoyed the race. They said the authorities here should focus more on such tourism-related activities.

They said programmes organised for the visitors should reflect the culture and lifestyle of the local people.
