Only God and people are behind me, says Rajini

Actor Rajinikanth, who had gone on a spiritual trip to the Himalayas, returned to Chennai on Tuesday.

Speaking to reporters at Poes Garden, the actor said, “I have been constantly asked if the Bharatiya Janata Party is behind me. I want to make it clear that only God, followed by the people, are there, okay?,” he said,

When asked if he had met with any BJP leaders in Himachal Pradesh. He reiterated what he said on December 31, that he had not taken a “complete plunge” into politics, and would not make any political statements until he did.

When asked about his view on the ongoing strike in the Tamil film industry, the actor said he has never been one to support strikes. His movie ‘Kaala’, directed by Pa. Ranjith, is scheduled for release on April 27.

On the vandalisation of the Periyar statue in Pudukottai, he said he had condemned the incident.

Denying rumours that he would make an important announcement on April 14, Mr. Rajinikanth said the process of appointing office-bearers for around 14 districts for the Rajini Makkal Mandram would be completed soon. On Tuesday, the office-bearers for Namakkal district were announced.
