The State government on Wednesday filed a defamation complaint against DMK president M.Karunanidhi in connection with a news item in the party organ Murasoli , which allegedly defamed Chief Minister Jayalalithaa.
This is the 12 defamation case instituted against Mr. Karunanidhi.
The City Public Prosecutor presented the complaint on behalf of the Chief Minister in the Principal Sessions Court on Wednesday.
In the complaint, CPP M.L. Jegan said Murasoli had published the item in question-answer form under the caption 'Kalaignar Pathilgal' in its issue dated on August 24 M.Karunanidhi, the author of the news item and S. Selvam, Editor, Printer and Publisher of the daily should be punished for defamation, the CPP added. According to the complaint, the DMK leader had spoken about the government stopping advertisements to a Tamil daily. The contents of the report were untrue and published without verification.
