The driver of a Sports Utility Vehicle was killed while eight tourists were injured in a road accident near here on Saturday night.
Police said a group of tourists from Ram Nagar in Gobichettipalayam were going to Kanyakumari in the SUV. When they were travelling along the four-lane national highway near Reddiyarpatti on the city outskirts shortly after Saturday midnight, the speeding SUV hit a stationary sand-laden lorry from behind.
While SUV driver Kaleeswaran was killed on the spot, eight tourists, including two children, were injured and rushed to Tirunelveli Medical College Hospital. Tirunelveli City Traffic Investigation Wing police have registered a case.
