One held with monitor lizard

Forest Department personnel have arrested a youth for allegedly poaching a monitor lizard in the Courtallam forest.

Sources in the department said a patrol team, led by Courtallam Forest Ranger Tharsius, intercepted three poachers when they were patrolling along Puliyaruvi area on Monday morning. Two of them managed to escape, and S. Shankar (23) of Kudiyiruppu near Courtallam was nabbed.

The patrol team members seized a monitor lizard from Shankar and are on the lookout for his associates.
