One dead, six injured in steam pipeline explosion at NLC

One person died and six other employees of the Neyveli Lignite Corporation (NLC) here sustained burns after the steam pipeline exploded due to heavy pressure on Tuesday, NLC sources said.

Due to impact of the explosion at the 600 MW thermal power station a portion of the building collapsed damaging the entire set up of computers and furniture there.

The explosion was caused due to heavy pressure in the steam pipeline, NLC sources said.

Of the injured, three were regular employees and others contract workers, they said adding, all of them were rushed to hospital.

The deceased was identified as R Selvaraj, Plant Engineer.

The power generation and its distribution was not affected due to the explosion, NLC Public Relations Officer S. Sridhar told PTI.

There are three units at the NLC and it now produces about 2000 MW of power totally, he said.
