People from various walks of life offered floral tributes to martyr Ondiveeran’s statue here on Saturday on his 245th death anniversary.
Speaker P. Dhanapal, Minister for Adi Dravida Welfare V.M. Rajalakshmi, Collector M. Karunakaran, MPs K.R.P. Prabhakaran, S. Muthukaruppan, Vasanthi Murugesan, Deputy Mayor P. Jeganathan alias Ganesan, MLA I.S. Inbadurai and others garlanded the statue of Ondiveeran in Palayamkottai.
Mr. Dhanapal and Ms. Rajalakshmi also placed wreaths at the martyr’s memorial in his birthplace Nerkattumseval Pachcheri in the district.
Office-bearers of various political parties and a few outfits also garlanded the portrait in the memorial.
To avert unpleasant law and order issues that took place in the past on this day, Dr. Karunakaran had clamped prohibitory orders in the district. Over 1,000 police personnel were deployed at Nerkattumseval and also along all roads leading to this tiny hamlet in western Tirunelveli.
