The All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) on Tuesday utilised the occasion provided by the 26 death anniversary of the party founder and former Chief Minister M.G. Ramachandran to renew its call for empowering Chief Minister Jayalalithaa to lead the nation.

A pledge, administered by Finance Minister and party treasurer O. Paneerselvam stated that workers should dedicate themselves to make the party victorious in all the 40 Lok Sabha constituencies in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry.

Earlier, Ms Jayalailthaa along with senior Ministers and functionaries placed a wreath at the mausoleum of MGR on the Marina here.

Before reading out the text of the pledge, Mr. Paneerselvam said it was the goal of the cadre to make Ms. Jayalalithaa Prime Minister. “Fort St. George [housing the Secretariat of the State government] is ours. Red Fort [from where Prime Ministers address the nation on Independence Day] is going to be ours,” he said, adding that the party would register a “historic victory” in the coming Lok Sabha elections.

At the headquarters of the Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam, the party founder Vijayakant paid floral homage to MGR. New Justice Party founder-president A.C. Shanmugam visited the MGR mausoleum to pay respects.

EVR death anniversary

The 40 death anniversary of Dravida Kazhagam (DK) founder E.V. Ramasamy was observed with Communist Party of India (Marxist) leaders G. Ramakrishnan and T.K. Rengarajan paying homage to the departed leader at the mausoleum of EVR in Vepery. DK vice-president Kali Poongundran called upon his party members to fulfil the tasks left behind by the party founder.
