On last day, councillors praise civic officials in Bengaluru

Had been lambasting the same officials over the last five years for “lackadaisical attitude”

April 12, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:35 am IST - Bengaluru:

Arguments and counter-arguments, anecdotal references and praises marked the last meeting of the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) council on Friday.

Even the last meeting of the council began late due to lack of quorum.

Once the meeting commenced, several councillors vied for a chance to speak about the five-year term, which comes to an end on April 22, 2015.

After lambasting officials for their “lackadaisical attitude” towards solving people’s problems over the past five years, councillors praised them for cooperating with them in taking up ward development works and likened them to essential cogs in a wheel.

Achievements

The meeting also witnessed Ruling Party Leader N.R. Ramesh listing out the “achievements” of the current council while Opposition Leader B.N. Manjunath Reddy took the opportunity to highlight the “failures” of the BJP administration.

An unusual demand came from Banashankari Temple ward councillor A.H. Basavaraju, who asked the BBMP Commissioner M. Lakshminarayan, to allot a separate room for councillors.

“We will have to keep coming to BBMP for various works. With no council in place, we will not have any place to sit,” he said.
