Youth Awakening Day

Members of Rotaract Club and National Service Scheme volunteers of Agricultural College and Research Institute, Madurai, celebrated Youth Awakening Day on October 15. A rally was taken out by the students, who also delivered speeches and poems in memory of former President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam on his birth anniversary. V. Swaminathan, Head, Department of Horticulture; N. Senthil, Head, Department of Bio-Technology, and T. Padmini, Staff Advisor-Home Science College and Research Institute, addressed the gathering. C. Swaminathan, Head, Department of Agronomy, asked the students to work hard for the betterment of the nation. Thasni Munnisa proposed a vote of thanks.

Youth Awakening Day was celebrated at Vivekananda College, Thiruvedakam West, on October 15 to mark the birth anniversary of Abdul Kalam. S. Bharathiraja, Assistant Professor of English, welcomed the gathering.

B. Ramamoorthy, Principal, in his presidential address, explained how the former President’s life inspired the youth.

The Vice-Principal, S. Raja, offered felicitations. K. Alagesan, Associate Professor of Commerce, delivered the keynote address on the life of Abdul Kalam. Students also spoke about the life of Kalam on the occasion. P. Kumaresan, Assistant Professor of English, proposed a vote of thanks.

The Department of Youth Welfare of Saraswathi Narayanan College, Madurai, observed the birth anniversary of former President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam with a talk on his dreams by S. Rathinavel, Dean, and K. Jeyakodi, Director. K. Krishnan, Vice-Principal, welcomed the gathering. M. Kannan, Principal, presided over the function. Prizes and certificates were distributed to winners of elocution and essay competitions organised to mark the occasion. A rally was also organised on the occasion. D. Muneeswaran, NSS Coordinator, proposed a vote of thanks.

Charter presented

The charter for the Leo Club of Fatima Michael College of Engineering and Technology, Madurai, was presented by S. Ramasubbu, District Governor, Lions Clubs International, on October 8. P. Reghuvaran installed the office-bearers of the club. A. Arivazhagan, Vice-District Governor, inducted the new members. M. Stalin Arockiaraj, Chairman, St. Michael Group of Institutions, offered felicitations. P. Nelson Raja, Principal, spoke about the need for students to take part in extra-curricular activities.

Lit Fest

The Department of Tamil of SBOA Matriculation and Higher Secondary School, Madurai, conducted a Lit Fest on October 17.

It featured talks on different topics by resource persons, students and alumni. V. Jeyashri of class XI welcomed the gathering. Joseph Stalin, correspondent, delivered the presidential address at the inaugural session. Seethalakshmi, Principal, offered felicitations.

S. Tejas Vikas of class XI spoke on how the school moulded his personality.

R. Natarajan, Education Officer, Gandhi Museum, in his address, focused on the importance of discipline in life. L. Sri Gayathri of class XI delivered a speech on ‘Limitations on friendship’.

S. Selva Gomathy, Assistant Director, Society for Community Organisation Trust, spoke on gender equality. Alumna Pon. Sowganthiga delivered a speech on creativity in journalism. Alumnus K. Arun Prasadth addressed the students on how to learn with ease and joy.

E. Lakshana of class XI proposed a vote of thanks.
