Alumni meet

The seventh annual alumni meet of Madurai Sivakasi Nadars Pioneer Meenakshi Women’s College, Poovanthi, was held on September 6 in which around 210 old students shared their old memories. R. Iswarya, president, Alumni Association, welcomed the gathering. C. Ramalakshmi, Principal, offered felicitations. R. Poonguzhali, Head, Department of Tamil, delivered a special address. Game shows were conducted for the participants. R. Kalaivani proposed a vote of thanks.

Teachers’ Day

Teachers’ Day was celebrated at N.M.S. Sermathai Vasan College for Women, Madurai, on September 4 with a cultural programme by students. The celebration was inaugurated by A. M. Selvarajan, vice-president. Students’ Union chairman A. Swathy welcomed the gathering and A. Arockia Amali proposed a vote of thanks.

Blood donation camp

The Youth Red Cross unit and Red Ribbon Club of Madurai Institute of Engineering and Technology, Madurai, conducted a blood donation camp on September 3 in association with the Primary Health Centre, Poovanthi, and Government Rajaji Hospital. About 100 students donated blood at the camp which was taken to the Government Rajaji Hospital Blood Bank.

Inter-collegiate meet

Sri Krishnasamy Arts and Science College, Mettamalai, Sattur, organised an inter-collegiate meet in connection with the inauguration of all associations on September 4. About 420 students from 20 colleges participated in various competitions conducted on the occasion. V. Paramasivan, secretary, and M. Brindha, director, presided over the inaugural function. D. Mahalakshmi, Assistant Professor of English, welcomed the gathering. G. Gopalakrishnamoorthy, Principal, proposed a vote of thanks. The overall champion shield was won by Ayya Nadar Janaki Ammal College, Sivakasi.

Blood donated

Fifty units of blood was collected at a blood donation camp organised by the Youth Red Cross, National Services Scheme and National Cadet Corps of the Standard Fireworks Rajaratnam College for Women, Sivakasi, on August 29. The camp was inaugurated by D. Sasireka, Principal. The collected blood was offered to Meenakshi Mission Hospital, Madurai.

Programme

Kalasalingam University, Krishnankoil. Kalasalingam University, National Service Scheme (NSS) and Innovation and Entrepreneurship Development Centre organised an entrepreneurship programme on Home Appliances Services and Testing on the university campus. K. Selvam, Training Officer, Industrial Training Institute, was the resource person. B. Perumal, NSS Programme Coordinator, M. Jeyakumar and T. Arunprasath, NSS Program Officers, were present.

Sports meet

The 23rd Annual sports meet of Palayampatti Nadars Uravinmurai A. Sankara Narayana Nadar Matriculation School was conducted on August 29. D. Mubeen Banu, Principal, welcomed the gathering. The secretary of A.P.T. Dorairaj Higher Secondary School, G. Premkumar, presided over the function. The Principal of Srivi Lions Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Srivilliputtur, A. Sudhakaran, was the chief guest and Shanthi Sudhakaran distributed prizes to winners. J. Gowri Sankari, a shot putter who won the gold medal in the Asian School Athlete Championship 2015, inspired the students with tips on participating in international competitions. S. Inbavanan, Correspondent, was present. School pupil leader M.P. Srivaishnavi delivered the vote of thanks.

Abdul Kalam memorial lecture

The NCC Army Wing of Thiagarajar College and Youth Red Cross Society organised A.P.J. Abdul Kalam memorial lecture on September 5 by Major P. Chandrasekaran, former Principal, Manonmaniam Sundaranar University Constituent College, Tirunelveli. While narrating the life history of the former President, he urged the students to work towards realising the dreams of Kalam of making India a developed nation. September 5 was chosen for the first memorial lecture as Abdul Kalam was an ardent admirer of teachers and he himself loved teaching, said N. Arun Nagendran, Company Commander, NCC, and Programme Officer, Youth Red Cross. B. S. Nadhini of third-year B.Sc. (Maths) presided over the function. S. Arun Kumar of third-year B.Sc. (Maths) welcomed the gathering and M. Madhan of third-year B.Com. proposed a vote of thanks.

Orientation programme

Saraswathi Narayanan College, Madurai, conducted an orientation programme for first- year National Service Scheme volunteers recently. M. Kannan, Principal, presided over the meeting. NSS Coordinator D. Muneesvaran welcomed the volunteers. K. Krishnan, Vice-Principal, offered felicitations.
