Offline webcasting facility in Mudukulathur

May 14, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:45 am IST - Ramanathapuram:

The Election authorities have offered to provide offline webcasting facility in 51 polling stations in Mudukulathur assembly constituency after the Madras High Court directed the Election Commission to provide protection to these polling booths.

Passing orders on a representation made by advocate K Anbuchezhiyan, seeking protection to these polling stations, a vacation bench directed the Election Commission to decide on the representation within 24 hours.

The advocate affiliated to the Congress has sought protection on the ground that AIADMK men attempted to capture the polling booths and prevented voters from casting their votes in areas where the 51 polling booths were located.

A day after the High Court passed the order, District Election Officer and Collector S. Natarajan said on Friday that they informed the court that offline webcasting facility would be provided in all the 51 polling booths and micro-observers would be posted in nine booths.

Besides, it has also been decided to deploy Central paramilitary forces wherever possible in consultation with the District police, Mr. Natarajan said.
