Vellore district Collector S.A. Raman has ordered the officials of the municipal corporation to immediately inspect the unused and dilapidated government buildings and take steps to eliminate mosquito-breeding sources.

Surprise inspection

On Saturday, the Collector made a surprise inspection of the cleaning work carried out by the corporation workers at Pillaiyar Koil Street in Kazhinjur.

Mr. Raman then came across piles of garbage inside a dilapidated building of a government middle school.

He found a partially-covered water sump full of larval growth. He asked the corporation workers why they did not notice the sump and clean it while collecting garbage from houses in the locality every day.

He directed the corporation assistant commissioner to inspect dilapidated and unused government buildings in the area, clear the garbage and debris and remove mosquito-breeding sources.

Mr. Raman ordered the sanitary workers to immediately check every house in the town as part of the measure to prevent the spread of dengue.

He said that action would be taken against those who do not perform their task properly, according to a press release.
