Officials come under attack by sand smugglers

Police have registered cases against unidentified persons for trying to attack a village administrative officer and his two assistants in Bagalur, early on Thursday.

The VAO of Eachancode, Vijaykumar, accompanied by two of his assistants, had intercepted four lorries in the small hours of Thursday near Bagalure on Kakkanur Road.

The lorries were found stacked with sand hidden underneath haystacks in gunny bags.

According to the police, the lorry drivers had entered into an altercation with the revenue officials and threatened them and had also made a bid to attack them. The men escaped.

Bagalur police have registered a case against unknown persons, in connection with the crime.

Four lorries and a car were impounded.
