Officials asked to ensure 100 per cent polling

Campus ambassadors felicitated for carrying out elector awareness programmes

Officials were asked to ensure that Systematic Voter Education for Electoral Participation (SVEEP) programmes were carried out across the district to reach all the voters so as to ensure 100 per cent polling.

The Election Commission has appointed Manish Gowtham, Central Awareness Observer (CAO), for the 11 Assembly constituencies in Salem district. He will oversee electoral process and voter awareness and facilitation process in the constituencies in the district.

At a meeting held at the Collectorate on Saturday, District Election Officer and Collector V. Sampath explained the various SVEEP programmes held so far in the 11 constituencies that have 33 town panchayats and 385 village panchayats.

Folk songs and dances, rangoli, distribution of pamphlets, pasting of awareness stickers in water cans and milk packets, besides vehicles were carried out to ensure 100 per cent polling. Also, campus ambassadors were selected in all the colleges and were asked to enrol new voters in their colleges.

Mr. Gowtham felicitated 22 campus ambassadors for carrying out elector awareness programmes. Additional District Election Officer and District Election Officer R. Sugumar, Corporation Commissioner K.R. Selvaraj, DRDA Project Director Kavitha and others participated in the meeting.

Later, Mr. Gowtham visited the signature campaign held at Salem South constituency and visited the mobile elector facilitation centre. He inspected the campaign held to explain the Voter Verified Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) system in the constituency.
