Officer from Thanjavur among crash victims

One of the Air Force personnel killed in the IAF helicopter collision at Jamnagar on Thursday hails from Thanjavur.

Murugan (39), senior warrant officer of Indian Air Force, Dibrugarh Air Base, Assam, was killed when two MI-17 choppers collided at Jamnagar in Gujarat. Murugan’s mother Kothaiyammal was at Kattumannargudi when she received the news and is on her way to Thanjavur. Sumathi, sister of Murugan, based in Thanjavur, said that she got news of the accident at around 2 p.m. and Murugan’s death was confirmed by Air Force by 5 p.m.

Married to Sivakamasundari, Murugan is survived by his two sons Akash and Vijayaprakash who are living in the Air Force quarters at Dibrugarh. Murugan went for training to Jamnagar. The body of Murugan may be brought to Thanjavur for cremation, Ms. Sumathi said.
