Kunal Ramesh Chandekar cracked the test with 174 out of 200
For the first time in the recent past a candidate from the OBC category topped the Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research entrance examination. Kunal Ramesh Chandekar from Secunderabad came first with a total of 174 marks out of 200. The next mark was shared by Hemanth Amardeep Santhoor from Bengaluru and TNC Pranav from Hyderabad (both from the unreserved category) with a score of 172.
According to Jipmer spokesperson R. Mahesh, this was the first time in the recent past that a candidate from the OBC category has secured the overall first rank in the Jipmer examination. Typically, the highest rank is scored by students from the unreserved category.
The highest mark for Puducherry students is 166 on 200 scored by M. Karthikeyan (overall 30 rank). Among OBC candidates from the Union Territory, the highest mark was 164, scored by T. Sushma and E. Monisha Priya with a total of 133 topped the SC list. In the all India SC category, Bayye Swapna from Kovvur in West Godavari District of Andhra Pradesh scored the highest mark of 161. Kathipri Nelia from Imphal scored 146, highest in the ST category.
In the Non Resident Indian/Overseas Citizen of India category, Sukumar Kalvapudi Duddukunta Vishal Reddy topped.
A total of 167 candidates in the open category, 99 in the Other Backward Class Category, 66 in the SC category, 36 in the ST category, 29 in the orthopaedically challenged category and 30 in the NRI/OCI category made to the shortlist. There is a separate merit list for candidates from Puducherry.
There are a total of 150 MBBS seats, with 51 in unreserved, 27 OBC, 15 SC and eight for ST students. In Puducherry quota, 18 seats are for unreserved, 11 for OBC, six for SC and five for NRI/OCI candidates. There are four candidates who come in on Central government nomination. Further, four seats are allotted for challenged persons on a horizontal reservation basis.
Individual marks and rank of all candidates will be available at www.jipmer.edu.in from June 10 onwards.
The counselling for all India categories will be on July 11 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and for Puducherry candidates from 2.30 p.m. to 5 p.m. on July 12. The selection order will be issued on July 15 and the classes will commence on July 17, a release said.
