Demanding scrapping of the Kudankulam Nuclear Power Project, villagers of Idinthakarai lay on the road for some time like corpses on Monday evening in protest against the project.

They staged the protest on the stretch connecting St. Lourdes Church and the arch at the entrance of their hamlets.

Anti-KKNPP Struggle Committee convener S.P. Udayakumar said Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited (NPCIL), the proponent of the project, had taken the first reactor to criticality stage “in a hasty manner without conducting offsite emergency drill” in the hamlets located close to the nuclear complex.
