Chockalingam nominated RGNIYD executive council chairperson

The former vice-chancellor of Manonmaniam Sundaranar University, Tirunelveli, K. Chockalingam has been nominated by the President of India as the Chairperson of the Executive Council of the Rajiv Gandhi National Institute of Youth Development (RGNIYD), Sriperumbudur, in his capacity as visitor of the RGNIYD.

The RGNIYD has been designated as an Institution of National Importance by the Act of Parliament 2012 and functioning under the administrative charge of the Union Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports. Prof. Chockalingam assumed office on October 9 and his tenure will be for three years.

He was the Founding Head of the Department of Criminology at the University of Madras and served for more than two decades.He was the Founder & President of the Indian Society of Victimology. The Indian Society of Victimology has instituted its highest award in the name of Prof.Chockalingam Award to be given to a distinguished scholar who has made significant contribution to victimology once in two years from 2013.

Besides all his academic activities, he is the honorary president of Kumari Maha Sabah.
