Indian National League Party general secretary J.Abdul Rahim has filed a habeas corpus petition in the Madras High Court seeking a direction to the jail authorities to permit him to interview his friend Fakhrudeen alias Police Fakhrudeen (35), a terror suspect, who has been lodged in the Central Prison, Vellore.

The petitioner said Fakhrudeen was detained as a remand prisoner. He went to the prison on November 18 to interview his friend. But the prison authorities refused permission. This violated Articles 14 and 21 of the Constitution. They said that only blood relatives of the prisoner could talk to him in prison. He represented to the authorities demanding action against those who denied permission to him.

A Division Bench comprising Justices S.Rajeswaran and P.N.Prakash ordered notice on maintainability of the petition and posted the matter for November 29.
