Puducherry Welfare Minister M. Candasamy on Sunday said ineffective officials should run away. He made this remark while addressing party vice-president Rahul Gandhi’s birthday celebrations at the Congress party office.

Mr. Candasamy said he has never seen an exemplary Chief Minister like V. Narayanasamy although he has worked with other Chief Ministers in the previous governments. He said the present Chief Minister has been activating the officials very often by conducting daily meeting and there is no place for ineffective officials here.

“I was elected from a reserved constituency. Otherwise, I would prefer to vacate my seat for Mr. Narayanasamy wholeheartedly. Other MLAs and party functionaries should arrange a constituency wherefrom he will get elected,” said Mr. Candasamy.

He also stated that his party men would be given due preference while extending social welfare measures and added that “Welfare measure will be given only through his party functionaries in the constituencies held by the opposition members, come what may.”

Speaker’s audience with Lt. Governor

The Raj Nivas is flooded with representations from different sections of the society. Although it is common for the public to meet the head of the state and air their grievances, in Puducherry elected representatives and those occupying constitutional positions are also meeting the Lt. Governor and airing their grievances.

Not to be left behind, the Speaker of the Assembly V. Vaithilingam made use of the audience given by Kiran Bedi. He placed before the Lt. Governor the various civic issues in his constituency of Kamaraj Nagar.

A Speaker meeting the Lt. Governor is a unique development according to political parties. But Mr. Vaithilingam felt that quick solutions would be available once the top most authority is apprised of the situation. Thanks to the initiatives of the Lt. Governor, things get done in Puducherry.

Cleaning-up with fervour

The once-a-week cleaning drive has caught up fervently in the Union Territory of Puducherry. Even before the dawn sets in, officials along with sanitation workers are seen organising themselves to clean up the drainage and the storm water drains every Saturday morning.

In a cleaning drive last Saturday, the waste materials removed from the storm water drains are left behind on the Vaithikuppam Road till the sanitation workers came back the next morning to clean it up.

Though Lieutenant Governor, who initiated this weekly drive on the Environment Day, directed the officials to provide gloves and shoes to the workers, it has not been completely implemented.

Despite the hue and cry about not providing the payment on time for the sanitation workers, the work still goes on promptly.
