Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi on Monday said the State government was making arrangements in such a manner that no hardship was caused to farmers in the Cauvery delta.

Responding to the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam general secretary Jayalalithaa’s announcement of an agitation, Mr. Karunanidhi, in a statement, said water from the Mettur dam was being released after consulting the farmers. The discharge had gone up from 18,000 cubic feet per second (cusecs) to 20,000 cusecs. Besides, Agriculture Minister Veerapandi S. Arumugam, Union Minister of State S.S. Palanimanickam and officials had gone around the delta.

In addition, crop loans and fertilizer distribution were being made adequately, the Chief Minister said, referring to the disbursal of relief to those hit by the Nisha cyclone in November last year.
