No alliance with Dravidian parties: PMK

September 09, 2013 02:59 am | Updated June 04, 2016 04:08 pm IST - SALEM:

Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) founder S. Ramadoss said that the party will not have alliance with any Dravidian party for the ensuing elections to the Lok Sabha in the year 2014.

He told this to newsmen here after taking part in the marriage of a senior party functionary at Tharamangalam, Salem district, on Sunday.

“PMK will join hands with all social movements and contest in parliamentary elections in 2014 in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry.

“We are confident of winning at least 20 of the total of 40 constituencies,” he added.

He recalled that PMK candidates emerged winners in four assembly segments when the party contested in its first ever assembly elections.

“If the PMK had contested the polls alone ever since inception it could have come to power in the State,” he said and expressed confidence that the party will come to power in Tamil Nadu in 2016. “The party lost its credibility by switching alliance between the two major Dravidian parties in Tamil Nadu over the years.

“The reward of having alliance with those parties was the detainment of 132 party cadres and functionaries under the Goondas Act”, Mr. Ramadoss added. Party leaders G.K. Mani and Anbumani Ramadoss were also present during the event that was organised.
