Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam treasurer M.K. Stalin on Sunday accused the ruling All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam of being a regime of “empty promises” as it never cared to implement any of the promises made to the people.

Addressing the mammoth State conference of the DMK here, he said the people of Tamil Nadu were desperately looking for elections to the State Assembly along with the forthcoming Lok Sabha polls as they were tired of the AIADMK regime.

Citing a report of Central Statistical Organisation, he said, the growth of the State had plummeted as it was no longer the destination of investors, he said.

On alliance for the Lok Sabha polls, Mr. Stalin, who strongly opposed an alliance with the Congress, said the Tiruchi conference had reflected the resolutions adopted in the general council of the party. “The resolution has clearly explained with whom we should have alliance and the parties that should not be included in the alliance,” he said. The general council, adopting a resolution against going with the Congress, decided to contest the Lok Sabha polls in the company of the existing allies.

Three cadres dieStaff Reporter adds:

Three DMK cadre who came to participate in the conference of the party here, died outside the pandal in the venue on Sunday.

The deceased were identified as Natarajan (70), a former teacher from Thammampatti in Salem district, Kamaraj (50) of Srikaragur village near Palakkod in Dharmapuri district and T. Krishnan (55) of Thanthonrimalai in Karur district.

Inside the conference venue, sparks from an electric wire caused a flutter for some time. The incident took place when the resolutions were being read out by the party organising secretary T.K.S. Elangovan.

Some of the cadre apparently pulled the wire tied to a pole causing it. A portable smoke extinguisher was put to use. Power connections to the arc lights were immediately snapped. The incident took place right behind the press enclosure.
