The Cyber Crime branch police have filed a First Information Report (FIR) against activist Piyush Sethia and a devotee of godman Nithyananda, on complaints of abusing each other on social media.

Police said that Mr. Sethia had posted a statement on Nithyananda with his picture along with a woman in the social media, in the aftermath of the judgment convicting Dera chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim. Mr. Sethia in the statement had stated that allegations similar to those against Gurmeet Ram Rahim were pending in courts against Nithyananda too.

Woman upset

The woman in the picture posing with Nithyananda took exception to the posting of her picture.

Later, the pictures of the family members of Mr. Sethia, including his mother, wife and daughter, with abusive comments were posted allegedly by the devotees of Nithyananda on the social media.

Mr. Sethia preferred a complaint with the Deputy Commissioner of Police, which was forwarded to the Cyber Crime branch police. He demanded action against the Nithyananda devotees under the Protection of Children from Sexual Act (POCSO Act) and also under the Women Harassment Act. The police said the woman preferred a counter complaint against Mr. Sethia.

The Cyber Crime police have registered an FIR under Sections 66 and 67 of the Information Technology Act 2008 against both.
