Nine killed in a road accident near Ariyalur

Nine persons – three men, five women and a baby - died in a major road accident involving bus and a lorry on the Sendurai - Ariyalur road at Ottakoil in Ariyalur district on Friday.

The Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation town bus was proceeding to Senthurai from Ariyalur and the lorry was transporting fly ash from Cuddalore district to a cement factory in Ariyalur district, when the accident took place.

A total of 43 persons suffered injuries. Of them 21 were rushed to Thanjavur Medical College Hospital. While six others were admitted to the Government Hospital, Ariyalur, 16 more were treated as outpatients.

E. Saravanavelraj, Collector, and Zia Ul Haq, Superintendent of Police, visited the spot.
