Nine bonded labourers rescued

Nine persons who were working as bonded labourers were rescued by Cheyyar Sub Collector T. Prabu Shankar on Friday.

They were allegedly employed by V.Yoganathan of Osur village in Vandavasi taluk for cutting trees. Five of them -- R.Ravi (32), his wife Pachaiyammal (30), Mani (56), Kuppan (58) and his wife Indirani (55) -- belong to Mazhuvankarani village.

The remaining four -- M. Mani (51), his wife Chandra (47), R.Arjunan (26) and his wife Devi (23) -- hail from Ramasamuthiram.

All of them were given rescue certificates and immediate compensation of each Rs.1,000 by sub collector and sent back to their village.

A case has been registered against Mr.Yoganathan in Keel Kodungalur police station.
