City Corporation authorities are hopeful of completing construction of the building near VOC Park, meant to serve as night shelter, before November.

A survey undertaken by the local body at the bus stand, railway station, and a few other locations indicated presence of nearly 100 persons living on the platforms. Most of them who had migrated from their villages in search of employment toil during day time and settle down on platforms to spend the night.

A similar facility with a capacity to accommodate over 40 persons exists at Solar. In the new building being constructed with a capacity to accommodate 60 persons in dormitory-type rooms, the ground floor will be occupied by men and the first floor by women, a senior corporation official said.

The Rs. 25 lakh building would have a kitchen. There is likelihood for providing food to the inmates in morning and evening. Both food and accommodation would be provided to the targeted sections free-of-cost. A caretaker, cook, and helper, and watchman will be appointed once the building is readied for occupation, sources said.
