NIA to take over probe in Thameem Ansari case

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) is set to take over further probe into the case involving Thameem Ansari, a man accused of aiding the Pakistani intelligence agency.

The 'Q' Branch CID of Tamil Nadu police which had been conducting investigation into the case for over seven months now, after arresting Thameem Ansari at Tiruchi, handed over the files relating to the case to the NIA for further probe.

A request has been made to the Judicial Magistrate court- II in Tiruchi to transfer all records pertaining to the case to the Special Court for Bomb Blast cases at Poonamallee in Chennai to conduct further court proceedings, the sources added.

Ansari was arrested in an operation that was closely monitored and coordinated by the Intelligence Bureau officials with DVDs containing images of paragliding training of the Indian Army and an Army Signal Corps parade allegedly seized from his possession before he was to fly to Colombo.
