Alleging that the newly born baby boy died because a nurse performed the delivery, relatives picketed Masanaickenpatti Primary Health Centre, and demanded action against the nurse and the doctor on Tuesday.
Baby (22), wife of Dineshbabu (26), a labourer of Sakthi Nagar, was admitted to the hospital for delivery on Sunday. On Monday night, she developed labour pain and nurse Sathya and her assistant Amudha performed the delivery. But the baby died later. Angered by the death of the baby, Dineshbabu and his relatives entered into altercation with the nurse and blamed them for the baby’s death.
They refused to receive the body and demanded action against the nurse. Ammapet Inspector of Police Nagaraj held talks with them and asked them to give a written complaint and assured of action.
Later, they received the body and left the PHC.
Deputy Director of Health Services Dr. Poongodi held inquiries with the doctor, nurse and the assistant nurse.
It was found that the baby developed complication and the nurse failed to alert the doctor. Subsequently, the nurse was transferred to Valasaiyur PHC.
