‘New railway time table disappointing’

October 04, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:50 am IST - NAGERCOIL:

The new railway time table was disappointing, said P. Edward Jeni, Secretary, Kanyakumari District Rail Users’ Association (KDRUA) here on Saturday.

Railway Minister Suresh Prabu said that announcement of new trains would be made only after the survey. He also assured that the announcements would be done in the recently held parliament session. Even after the session was over, there was no announcement of new trains in the new time table, Mr. Jeni said.

There was much expectations among the railway users that the district would get a fair treatment. But the BJP-led NDA government belied the expectations of the people of Kanyakumari district during the last two budgets. The district was neglected in 2013 and 2014 budgets.

The demands of the KDRUA including change in the time of Kanyakumari-Punalur train and extension of Trichy-Tirunelveli Express to Nagercoil were also not met. Requests for stoppages of Nagercoil-Gandhidham, Tirunelveli-Hapa, Kanyakumari-Dibrugar, Nagercoil-Shalimar, Tirunelveli-Bilaspore express trains at Kuzhithurai and stoppage at Eraniel station for Nagercoil-Mangalore Eranadu Express train was also neglected by the railway authorities, KDRUA said.
