New railway hospital commissioned

The new building for Salem Divisional Railway Hospital, constructed here at a cost of 5.5 crore with state-of-art facilities, was commissioned on Tuesday.

Divisional Railway Manager Shubranshu inaugurated the hospital in the presence of M. Prasanna Kumar, Chief Medical Director, Southern Railway; A. Kalanidhi, Chief Medical Superintendent, Salem Division; M. Narasimham, Additional Chief Medical Superintendent, Salem Division; and other senior officials.

The upgraded hospital with 60-bed capacity has multi-speciality wings, hi-tech intensive care unit, labour ward, surgical ward, operation theatre, paediatric ward, and additional laboratories and modern medical equipments such as multipara monitor, defibrillator, pulse oscillometer, foetal monitor, and ENT and anesthetic equipment, installed at an expenditure of Rs. 45 lakh. Erode qualified for the upgraded hospital owing to the presence a large number of employees at Diesel Loco Shed, Electric Loco Shed, and Railway Schools, and its easy accessibility by train from every part of the Division, such as Salem, Coimbatore, Tirupur and Karur.
