Police’s priority now is the smooth and fair conduct of Lok Sabha elections. Work on elections has already started and a few Superintendents of Police will be transferred in this connection soon, Director-General of Police P. Kamaraj said.
“The Election Commission has mandated that any officer, who has worked in a certain area for three years, especially in Law and Order section, should be transferred. The department is now identifying those to be transferred,” he told on the occasion of new Inspector-General of Police Praveer Ranjan assuming office.
Even the transfer of the Inspectors and Sub Inspectors was overdue, but the Department was waiting till the Republic Day celebrations were over before effecting the transfers, he said.
On the topic of the Crime, Criminal Tracking Network, which was inaugurated in late 2013, Mr. Kamaraj said the project was in the final stage of completion, he said.
Mr. Ranjan, who was previously heading the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the Delhi Police, has now taken over as Inspector-General of Police here. Puducherry’s new IGP was previously in the news for the Union Home Ministry overturning a specific request by Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal to appoint Mr. Ranjan as chief of the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB).
