August 14, 2017 07:53 am | Updated 07:53 am IST - NAGAPATTINAM

A leak in an ONGC pipeline was detected along a canal at Madhirimangalam in Nagapattinam district on Sunday morning, and the supply valve at the oil well close by was plugged within an hour, according to official sources.

Acknowledging that the leak had recurred at the same place for the second time in a year, an ONGC official said the company could not replace the damaged pipe or undertake maintenance due to stiff resistance from the public.

P.R. Pandian, president of the Federation of Farmers Associations of Cauvery Delta, said that a bandh would be observed against ONGC projects on August 29 across Cuddalore, Nagapattinam, Thiruvarur and Thanjavur districts.
