New Collector assumes office

She has come a long way in govt. service from the post of Junior Assistant in 1993

After making a humble beginning in government service as Junior Assistant in Commercial Taxes department in 1993, G. Latha has come a long way to assume office as the Collector of the district.

Ms. Latha, who was serving as Director of Disaster Management and transferred and appointed as Sivaganga Collector a few days ago, assumed office on Monday. She replaced R. Malarvizhi, who has been transferred and posted as Deputy Secretary, Home, Prohibition and Excise.

“I will focus on drought mitigation, dry land farming, education and public heath,” Ms. Latha told reporters in an informal chat after assuming office. She would strive to develop agriculture in general and Mission on Sustainable Dry Land Agriculture (MSDA) in particular in the drought-prone and backward district, she said.

Health and education would also be given special attention, she said, adding public could contact her freely and she would be ready to redress their grievances.

A native of Kancheepuram, Ms. Latha began her career as Junior Assistant in 1993, and later cleared Group I examination. She served as Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), Tiruthani, from 2001-2003.

She later switched over to Revenue department and served as Revenue Divisional Officer (RDO) in Tiruthani and District Supply Officer in Ponneri. After a three-year stint in the Commissionerate of Revenue Administration, she served as Divisional Revenue Officer in Chennai Corporation (Elections) before serving as General Manager, Tamil Nadu Industrial Development Corporation (TIDCO), during 2009-11 and then as GM, Women’s Development Corporation, till 2012.

After getting IAS cadre in 2013, she served as Commissioner of Coimbatore Corporation for more than a year and then as Deputy Secretary of Industries department during 2014-15.

She served as Director of Handlooms during 2015-16 before being appointed as Director of Disaster Management.
