A new set of judges will preside over the court proceedings in the Madras High Court Bench here from Monday as the three-month tenure of the existing set got over on Friday.
The new batch would stay in Madurai till September 30.
Justice P. Jyothimani (the senior most in the batch) and Justice Aruna Jagadeesan would preside over a Division Bench to hear criminal appeals and habeas corpus petitions.
After Division Bench work, the senior judge would sit alone and take up writ petitions pending since 2006 for final hearing.
Justices P.P.S. Janarthana Raja and M.M. Sundresh would constitute the second Division Bench to hear writ appeals and public interest litigation petitions.
After the Division Bench sitting, Mr. Justice Raja would sit alone and hear civil revision petitions pending since 2009.
While Justice R. Sudhakar would deal with admission of writ petitions relating to commercial taxes, electricity and other general issues, Justice Vinod K. Sharma would take up writ petitions pending since 2005 for final hearing.
Justice S. Manikumar has been given the portfolio of admission of writ petitions relating to service matters and education.
Justice A. Selvam, the only judge who continues to serve in Madurai for long without seeking transfer to Chennai, would hear civil appeals.
The portfolios of other judges are: Justice S. Palanivelu (criminal revision cases), Justice C.S. Karnan (civil revision petitions), Justice M. Duraiswamy (second appeals) and Justice R. Mala (bail and anticipatory bail petitions). Mr. Justice Sundresh and Ms. Justice Jagadeesan would hear direction petitions and second appeals pending since 2004 respectively after Division Bench work.
