Aavin’s ‘kulfi’ and varieties of “khoa” are popular among consumers in Vellore. Now, the Vellore-Tiruvannamalai Districts’ Cooperative Milk Producers’ Union (Vellore Aavin) is planning to come up with new treats of “long kulfi”, ghee “mysurpa” and paneer.

At the union’s 75th general body meeting on Thursday, its general manager N. Arul Jothi Arasan placed the proposal to produce and introduce the new products for approval.

Along highways

He said that to increase the sale of milk and milk products, they were planning to set up new Aavin parlours including along the National Highways at Ambur Town, Kannigapuram, Velapadi, Sumaithangi, Arcot, Walaja, Arakkonam and Ratnagiri.

A multi-purpose training complex for the union has been planned at Yelagiri, he added. Under the National Agriculture Development Programme, Rs. 203.50 lakh has been spent for strengthening the equipment infrastructure at the milk cooling centres at Vellore dairy, Anakkavur, Ambur, Kodaikal and Tiruvannamalai.

NABARD fund will be utilised for repairing the area where one lakh litre milk will be filled in packets and sent for local sales at the Vellore dairy and constructing a cold storage room of one lakh litres capacity and purchase/installation of required equipment at the dairy.

This will be taken up at Rs. 500 lakh.

The union also presented the budget for 2014-2015. The commission for Aavin milk agents has been hiked from 90 paise to nearly Rs. 1.20 per litre. They have been receiving 90 paise from November 2011.

In the budget for 2014-15, the union plans to procure more milk than last year, up to 3.20 lakh litres of milk on an average, with a target of one lakh litres for the local area sales in this financial year.

It has plans to take up increased sales of milk by-products so that consumers get the products at the right prices without any shortage.

The union has a target of achieving a profit of Rs. 9.56 crore.

Among others, Velazhagan, chairman of the union, was present.
