P. Nedumaran, president, Ulaga Thamizhar Peramaippu and 81 others, who were arrested when they staged protests against the demolition of a portion of the compound wall of the Mullivaikkal Memorial, were remanded to 15 days custody, on Wednesday night.

The arrested persons were kept in a community hall at Kallukulam till midnight. The police registered cases under section 147 (unlawful assembly) 148 (rioting armed with deadly weapons), 447 (trespass), 506 (II) (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code and under Tamil Nadu Public Property (Prevention of Damage and Loss) Act.

At 1 a.m. Judicial Magistrate Moorthy came to the nearby St. Joseph's School and remanded 82 persons, including Mr. Nedumaran, to custody till November 27. One person who was found to be a minor was sent to Borstal School here. Others were taken to Tiruchi Central Prison.

The police arrested Mr. Nedumaran and 22 others near the memorial while others were rounded up at various places when they staged demonstrations on Wednesday.
