Nearly 50,000 benefit from job camps: Minister

Special employment camp inaugurated in Jolarpet

A total of 52,794 persons have got employment in the private sector through the special employment camps conducted by the District Employment Offices throughout the State in the last three-and-a-half years, according to P. Mohan, Minister for Rural Industries, Labour and Employment.

Participating in a special employment camp for the private sector conducted by the Department of Employment and Training in the Government Sports Stadium in Jolarpet on Saturday, Mr. Mohan said that during the last three-and-a-half years, 64,826 candidates, who had registered in the district employment offices, have obtained employment in the government departments as well as the Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation. A total of 3,57,608 micro small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) have registered for setting up their units during the period. A total of 5,593 MSMEs were given capital subsidy of Rs.230.30 crore, while 3,945 units have received generator subsidy of Rs.44.56 crore. Interest subsidy of three per cent, amounting to Rs.56.17 crore was given to 674 beneficiaries, he said.

K.C. Veeramani, School Education Minister, who inaugurated the camp appealed to the educated unemployed youth in and around Jolarpet to utilise the camp to enhance their skills to meet the requirements of the private sector in order that they become eligible to get jobs.

M. Veera Shanmugha Moni, Secretary, Department of Labour and Employment presided. C. Samayamoorthy, Director of Employment and Training read the project report. V. Meenakshi, Regional Joint Director of Employment, Chennai, welcomed the gathering. Arunagiri, Assistant Director of Employment, Vellore, proposed a vote of thanks.
