Nearly 4,500 coconut trees destroyed in rain

A total of 4,356 coconut trees were destroyed in the rain that lashed Pochampalli taluk in the district on Monday.

According to an administration, 108 houses were partially damaged, and 12

houses were fully damaged in the rain.

In Keezhkuppan, 3,000 coconut

trees destroyed in the rain.

Deputy Speaker of Lok Sabha, M. Thambidurai, inspected the villages in Pochamapalli to ascertain the extent of damage.

He told reporters here that the government was functioning in the same manner as it was under the late Jayalalithaa.

The Tangedco officials said that electric lines were damaged in the rain. Over 410 electric poles too were damaged.

The district administration has distributed 10 kg of rice, 2 litres of kerosene, two sari, and dhoti to 120 persons who were affected by the rain.
