The Nilgiri Documentation Center (NDC) will organise a local tour on August 15 to honour the freedom struggle in Nilgiris.

The tour will cover Kotagiri, Coonoor and Ooty and will touch important places associated with freedom struggle in the district, said a press release from the honorary director of the NDC, Venugopal Dharmalingam.

“The highlights of the tour includes the spots visited by Mahatma Gandhi during his tour of 1934, the house in which Netaji’s brother was kept in house arrest in early 1940s, the house in which Dr. Annie Besant was interned in 1917 and some schools, which boycotted classes during the struggle,” he stated.

At the end of the tour, a memorial wreath will be placed at the Independence Day Park at Ooty. Those interested may contact 9444365360.
